Thomas Cooper

Filmmaker turned Cartographer

I started my career in a data center, where I worked with advanced video transfer and storage systems, ensuring media was captured, secured, and preserved with precision. That foundation led me into the film industry as a Digital Imaging Technician and later as an assistant in editorial, where I managed on-set data workflows, camera systems, and post-production processes. These roles sharpened my ability to handle complex technical environments, troubleshoot under pressure, and translate raw information into clear, usable results. Eventually, I returned to school looking for financial stability; to study geography and geomatics, combining my media background with formal training in mapping, GIS, and environmental technologies.

Today, I work as an aerial survey cartographer specializing in LiDAR and advanced imaging. The transition feels natural, because the same principles apply: capturing, managing, and delivering high-quality visual and spatial data. Where film required precision to tell a story, surveying demands accuracy to inform projects and decisions. My background allows me to bridge both worlds—using the technical discipline of data management and the creative eye of media production to deliver work that is both reliable and impactful.

My photography has turned back into a creative outlet, and this site sells services I provide to help fund the very expensive professional camera gear I enjoy.
